As soon as the Orphanage received official sanction as a custody center, they began receiving more parrots, reptiles and monkeys.
There is a big need for a feline rescue centre in the Amazon. The Orphanage has been contacted by at least a dozen people who want to give them Ocelots.

Unfortunately, many people buy baby animals because they are so cute—mostly ocelots and wooly monkeys—and after a few weeks or months, they don't know how to care for them, do not have sufficient space, have lost interest, and/or don't have the funds to maintain these exotic creatures.

Each of the animals needs food and sometimes medicine or veterinary care. The Orphanage has covered the cost of providing nourishment and care until recently. As the Orphanage continues to grow, expenses will need to be covered through the generosity of people like you.

Educators, please note that "adopting" one of these animals would make a wonderful class project; such participation helps teach people the value of our planet's variety of life and how important it is to protect every living thing. Our world is amazing, and animals such as these are what help make it so wonderful.

Both the Orphanage and Pilpintuwasi Butterfly farm have volunteer programs. Please eMail Gudrun directly if you are interested in helping in any way: pilpintuwasi@yahoo.es

Gudrun and the animals need our help more than ever!

All donations will help save abandoned animals:

  •  $10 will care for one of the turtles for a month;

  •  $50 covers vitamins and some of the food for all of the birds (they also fly out and eat;

•  $90 covers care for Rosita the Anteater. She eats ants (which she finds on her own), has oat milk when visitors want to see her and after nap-time, and we pay a young boy to walk with her in the jungle to keep her safe;

•  $250 will provide care for the Ocelot.

•  $480 per month feeds Pedro Bello, the Jaguar, who is now at his full size. (We have had a wonderful anonymous donor since 2008 to help us care for Pedro Bello. Our kind anonymous donor also funded his enclosure!)
